SUMMARY:The Neurobiology of Play Therapy – Michigan State University
DESCRIPTION:This is a closed group and is not open to the public. However\, we offer in-house trainings to organizations. Click here for more information or email Lisa Dion directly. \nIn this 6-hour workshop\, therapists will have a one-of-a-kind experience exploring the basic components of play therapy from a neurobiology perspective. Through didactic and experiential teachings\, participants will learn cutting-edge research on neural anatomy\, mindfulness\, attachment theory and brain development as the research is translated into practical ways of working with children and parents. Participants will also learn what it means to attach to one’s self as the cornerstone for all healing\, the importance of congruent emotional expression in the play room\, how to identify types of dys-regulation in the playroom\, how to model regulating activities to the client\, how to talk to and involve parents and ultimately how to re-pattern a child’s nervous system through the play therapy process. Aggressive play will also be covered from the perspective of nervous system regulation\, attunement and mindfulness. Finally\, participants will learn how to track a client’s changes in a simple\, yet comprehensive way.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Synergetic Play Therapy
DESCRIPTION:In this six-month course\, therapists and child educators will explore the basic components of Synergetic Play Therapy™. To personalize this training\, participants receive an additional 30 minutes of individual consultation each month. This is the second in the series that started in October 2016.    Stay tuned for 2017 dates! \n\nWhat makes this class unique: \n\nWe take cutting-edge research in interpersonal neural anatomy\, mindfulness\, attachment theory and brain development from researchers like Daniel Siegel\, Allan Schore\, Stephan Porges\, John Demartini and others\, and then translate these findings into practical ways of working with children and parents.\nAttachment is a buzz word in child development. However\, few theorists recognize and understand how the attachment process actually works and the importance of attaching to one’s self first and foremost. Synergetic Play Therapy™ is the first play therapy model that integrates this key element into the therapeutic process. As the cornerstone of all healing\, this class will give you insight into what attaching to one’s self means and how to facilitate yourself and your clients in the process of attaching to themselves.\nResearch shows that when we name our emotional state\, we decrease our fight/flight/freeze/fall asleep response and increase our ability to make decisions and connect with self and other. You will learn the importance of the therapist’s congruent emotional expression in the playroom and how this is a key element of helping re-pattern a child’s nervous system.\nAll client symptoms are the result of a dys-regulated nervous system. You will learn how to identify the types of dys-regulation\, how to model regulating activities to clients and how to translate this information to parents.\nWe will also cover the standard play therapy topics such as\, how to facilitate sand\, art\, trauma and aggressive play. However\, we will cover these topics from the perspective of nervous system regulation\, attunement\, attachment to self\, mindfulness and authenticity.\nWith all of these new skills\, it’s important to know how to track the client’s changes for parents\, teachers\, agencies and yourself.  You will learn how to track a client’s transformation in a simple\, yet comprehensive way.\n\nEach month we will build your skill set by exploring different topics through teachings\, supervision\, practice and video observation. \n APT Approved Provider 09-264.
