SUMMARY:Working with Aggression and Intensity in the Playroom (1 Day Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Playful Connections Sandtray Institute\, join Lisa for a one-day workshop: Working with Aggression and Intensity in the Playroom.  \nAlthough aggression and death are a common part of the play therapy process\, many therapists don’t have a clear understanding of what to do and how to facilitate the intensity when it enters the playroom during play. The result can lead to inadvertently promoting aggression and increasing low brain disorganization. It can also lead to the therapist feeling beat up\, exhausted\, and hyper-aroused themselves\, which can over time\, significantly impact their longevity in the field\, as well as their ability to stay attuned and present to a child in the playroom. \nThis workshop is designed to help play therapists understand aggression and death play from a neurobiological perspective and a Synergetic Play Therapy lens. With the help of neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology\, therapists will learn how to effectively work with this type of play in a way that supports nervous system regulation\, repatterning of the child’s autonomic activation patterns and decreases compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. \nHere’s what will be covered: 1.Identify strategies for maintaining regulation in the midst of intense play\, aggression and death in the playroom2.Identify at least 2 strategies for working with aggression in the playroom without experiencing your own nervous system shut down leading to vicarious trauma3. Explain the link between a child’s dysregulated states of their nervous system and their aggressive and traumatic play4. Examine the Synergetic Play Therapy concept of “The Set Up” in the playroom as a way to understand what the child is trying to communicate5. Demonstrate at least 2 strategies for setting boundaries without shaming or shutting down a child’s play6. Describe the importance of becoming the child’s external regulator for trauma integration Working with Aggression and Intensity in the Playroom \nGet all the details and register here.

SUMMARY:Transforming Trauma Patterns: A Neurobiological Approach to Intergenerational Trauma in Play Therapy (1 Day Workshop)
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by Center for Child Counseling\, join Lisa for a one-day in-person workshop: Transforming Trauma Patterns: A Neurobiological Approach to Intergenerational Trauma in Play Therapy.  \nThis is a specialized 6 hour course crafted for play therapists seeking to enhance their skills in identifying and breaking intergenerational trauma patterns. Drawing from neuroscience and Synergetic Play Therapy principles\, this course offers an exploration of how trauma is stored and repeated across generations\, as well as how to use play therapy to support the healing and integration of these patterns. By the end of this eye-opening course\, play therapists will be equipped with knowledge and skills to effectively identify and break intergenerational trauma patterns\, empowering them to facilitate healing and transformation in their clients.\n\nObjectives:  \n1. Examine how trauma patterns get stored and how they show up in play therapy \n2. Explore the Synergetic Play Therapy concept of “The Set Up/Offering” and how to use this concept to explore intergenerational patterns \n3. Explore what it takes to repattern the activation of the autonomic nervous system in play therapy \n4. Examine the importance of working with the parents in the play therapy process when the goal is intergenerational healing \n5. Explore the role “perception” plays in trauma storage and healing in the play therapy process \n6. Understand the significance of the therapist becoming the child’s “external regulator” for trauma integration and healing in play therapy\nRegister here!

Come explore how to support these children in play therapy and discover how their need for perfection is in fact perfect. \nSupporting a child struggling with obsessive compulsions and perfectionism can be incredibly challenging as the desire to move the child out of their rigidity and rituals can overshadow the deeper issues and stressors driving the behaviors.  Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is a complex disorder as the reasons behind the behaviors vary from managing anxiety to past traumas to focused energy inside of a child driving them towards their genius and that which is most meaningful.  Due to the complexity\, therapists often mis-label\, mis-understand and mis-guide these children in how to work with and understand their rituals and need for perfectionism.  Without an understanding of this disorder and how play therapy is able to support the integration of the underlying drivers of the behaviors\, play therapists can inadvertently intensify the inner struggle that is often experienced by these children as they attempt to stop\, control and even deny the urges in their bodies. \nDrawing from Synergetic Play Therapy and interpersonal neurobiology\, this workshop explores non-directive and directive play based interventions to help support play therapists on a path to understand the perfection in these children’s perfection\, while teaching the child how to do the same.  Play therapists will take a deeper look at the regulatory function of the child’s behaviors that manage the internal conflicts and anxieties these children often carry.  Through discussion and experiential exercises\, play therapists will learn how to separate the underlying drivers from the wisdom of the rituals themselves.  With this knowledge\, play therapists will learn how to use themselves and many forms of play to help these children access an understanding of the greatest perfection that exists\, the child just as they are. \nThis is event is open to the public\, please visit the organizations website for additional information. If you would like your organization to receive training in Synergetic Play Therapy\, please contact the Institute at info@synergeticplaytherapy.com.

SUMMARY:Healing Medical Trauma in Play Therapy (LAPT Conference – Day 1)
DESCRIPTION:Join Lisa as she Keynotes 2-days at the 2024 Louisiana Play Therapy Association Conference. On day 1\, the topic will be Healing Medical Trauma in Play Therapy. \nDescription: \nMedical trauma is a prevalent experience for many children who have undergone medical procedures or experienced chronic and acute conditions yet is often not included in trauma discussions. Learn how to use play to help children integrate their medical experiences. \nAccording to the National Child Trauma Stress Network\, up to 80% of children who undergo medical procedures experience some form of traumatic stress and 20-30% of parents and 15% of children experience chronic stress from medical procedures.  Without knowing what medical trauma is and how the symptoms manifest\, play therapists can inadvertently miss signs that the child has experienced a medical trauma or jump to conclusions regarding the child’s behaviors and play.  In this 6-hour workshop\, play therapists will explore medical trauma from the perspective of neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology while drawing from Gestalt\, Synergetic and Nature Based Play principles and theories.  Using creative play-based ways to support children and their family’s healing process\, participants will learn how to create emotional and relational safety for trauma integration.  They will learn what it means to become a child’s external regulator to help integrate the activation in a child’s nervous system while safely allowing the child to access the stored trauma in their body from the trauma.  Participants will also explore the symptoms often associated with medical trauma as the symptoms can often be confused with sexual or sensory trauma.  Whether the child has experienced a single incident trauma or is struggling with a chronic illness\, participants will learn what it really takes to integrate their experiences.  As children are not the only ones affected by medical trauma\, care for their caregivers will also be addressed\, as well as an exploration of creative play-based ways to help the entire family system heal. \nAs this is a special populations workshop\, it is important that participants already have a solid foundation in play therapy skills and experience.   This workshop is thus geared towards an intermediate level. \nThis workshop helps participants gain a deeper understanding of the diverse impacts of childhood trauma\, specifically medical trauma and its impact on the play therapy process.  As participants learn about medical trauma\, they will also be better able to create treatment goals\, understand possible interventions and design a treatment process that is more congruent for the child and their family. \nThis is event is open to the public\, please visit the organizations website for additional information. If you would like your organization to receive training in Synergetic Play Therapy\, please contact the Institute at info@synergeticplaytherapy.com.

SUMMARY:Irish Play Therapy Community Association: A Synergetic Play Therapy Approach to Revolutionizing Therapeutic Play with Children
DESCRIPTION:Although aggression and death are a common part of the play therapy process\, many therapists don’t have a clear understanding of what to do and how to facilitate the intensity when it enters the playroom during play.  The result can lead to inadvertently promoting aggression and increasing low brain disorganization.  It can also lead to the therapist feeling beat up\, exhausted and hyper-aroused themselves\, which can over time significantly impact their longevity in the field\, as well as their ability to stay attuned and present to a child in the play room.\n\nThis workshop is designed to help play therapists understand aggression and death play from a neuro-biological perspective and a Synergetic Play Therapy lens.  With the help of neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology\, therapists will learn how to effectively work with this type of play in a way that supports nervous system regulation\, repatterning of the child’s autonomic activation patterns and decreases compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma.\n\nThis workshop will take therapists to new possibilities as they explore a science based process for working with children at the deepest\, most profound levels while staying safe and sane.  They will learn how to make aggressive play therapeutic while understanding what it takes to maximize growth and integration for their clients and themselves. \nThis is event is open to the public\, please visit the organizations website for additional information. SUMMARY:Washington State Association of Play Therapy: A Synergetic Play Therapy Approach to Revolutionizing Therapeutic Play with Children
DESCRIPTION:This presentation is designed to help practitioners understand therapeutic play from a neuro- biological perspective. With the help of neuroscience\, interpersonal neurobiology\, and a Synergetic Play Therapy framework\, practitioners will learn how to effectively work with therapeutic play in a way that supports nervous system regulation\, reorganization of the child’s lower centers of the brain and promotes healing for the child. Through role play\, discussion\, and experiential exercises participants will learn practical techniques that can be used right away in the playroom. Topics such as boundaries\, co-regulation\, nervous system activation\, emotional flooding and use of aggressive toys and play will be explored.\nThis training will also guide participants towards a deeper understanding of what it means to become a child’s external regulator during trauma play while practicing how to care for their own nervous system thereby decreasing compassion fatigue and vicarious trauma. The result is the transformation of trauma play into ways of connecting\, healing\, and mutual trust. \nThis 2-day Keynote being presented by Lisa Dion This is event is open to the public\, and will take place on March 17 and 18\, 2023.  For additional information\, please visit the WAAPT website. \nIf you would like your organization to receive training in Synergetic Play Therapy\, please contact the Institute at info@synergeticplaytherapy.com.

SUMMARY:Sexual Assault Services – Victoria: Becoming an External Regulator in Traumatic Play
DESCRIPTION:Join Lisa Dion at the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre (QVWC) in Melbourne where she will present Becoming an External Regulator in Traumatic Play. \nResearch in neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology sheds light on the need for the play therapist to act as the external regulator supporting the child to move towards the intensity they are experiencing allowing for integration.  This workshop explores this need during trauma integration for two primary reasons: \n1) The child need to borrow the play therapist’s regulatory capacity as they work through their traumatic thoughts\, feelings and sensations in play therapy and \n2) The play therapist’s ability to regulate themselves during the intensity increases the capacity for presence and attunement with the child\, while simultaneously supporting the health and longevity of their own nervous system. \nWithout the ability of the play therapist to become the external regulator for the intensity that arises during trauma integration\, both the child and the play therapist are at risk for emotional flooding and high levels of dysregulation in their nervous systems.  Over time\, this can significantly impact a play therapist’s longevity in the field\, as well as the ability to stay attuned and present to a child in sessions. \nThis is event is open to the public\, please visit the organizations website for additional information. If you would like your organization to receive training in Synergetic Play Therapy\, please contact the Institute at info@synergeticplaytherapy.com.
