SUMMARY:AGATE Institute Workshop: X-Files- Complex Clinical Cases
DESCRIPTION:From Detached to Attached:  A Complex Clinical Case Study using Synergetic Play Therapy \nJoin Lisa Dion for this special presentation as she walks you through her healing journey with Sarah\, an eleven year old girl adopted from China diagnosed with Reactive Attachment Disorder\, Learning Disabilities\, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder\, and Autism.  During this discussion\, Lisa invites you into her clinical process as she worked towards integration\, regulation and re-patterning Sarah’s activated nervous system.  Lisa will share how she used Synergetic Play Therapy principles to help her conceptualize treatment for this complex case and ultimately how Synergetic Play Therapy was used clinically.  She will discuss the interventions used as she weaved together non-directive play\, directive play\, and parent/child relationship play to support the integration of underlying trauma\, re-pattern Sarah’s ability to attach\, and ultimately support her ability to connect to herself\, the people in her life and the world around her. \nLearning Objectives: \n\nParticipants will analyze how Synergetic Play Therapy principles helped conceptualize treatment and ultimately how Synergetic Play Therapy was used clinically.\nParticipants will examine how non-directive\, directive and parent/child play were used to support healing and integration.

SUMMARY:Play Therapy with Pre-Teens and Teens: Workshop - New York APT Conference
DESCRIPTION:Join Lisa at the 2021 New York APT Conference!  \nFrom twelve-year-olds to seniors in high school\, adolescence is a time filled with change. This can make the notion of bringing play therapy to this population a challenge.  Do we play? Do we talk?  Using neuroscience\, developmental theory and Synergetic Play Therapy® theory\, participants will explore these questions along with what is the most important goal when working with this population\, how to maximize engagement in sessions\, how to work with older children using directive and non-directive play techniques\, the role of the play therapist during this important developmental phase\, and how to turn the awkwardness into authenticity and healing. \n\nDescribe why it is important not to have a script for when to apply directive and non-directive play therapy interventions with pre-teens and teens\nDiscuss the importance of assessing the pre-teen or teen’s emotional age in the play therapy process\nExplain the most important goal when applying play therapy to your work with pre-teens and teens\n\nGet more info or sign up here.

SUMMARY:2021 Six-Day Synergetic Play Therapy® Intensive
DESCRIPTION:The Six-Day Synergetic Play Therapy® Intensive is over two weekends (April 16th-18th and April 23rd-25th) and allows you to jump in and really experience the magic of Synergetic Play Therapy®! We hold these intensives regularly throughout the year\, limiting this program to four people in order to permit extensive skill practice with individualized coaching and feedback. Each participant will be paired with a child client with whom they will work every day during the training under direct supervision as part of a therapeutic observation team. Dive into SPT and see if it’s right for you! \nSix-Day Synergetic Play Therapy® Intensive objectives: \n\nExplain some of the neuroscience behind identifying children’s states of dysregulation during play therapy and how this influences the symptoms and play in the playroom.\nDescribe how Synergetic Play Therapy® tools such as Nervous System Chart\, The Process of Change\, and explaining the Synergetic Play Therapy® Stages can help a parent understand the play therapy process and keep them engaged.\nBegin to assess a child’s emotional age in their play during the play therapy process.\nDemonstrate how mindfulness and self-awareness in the playroom is an essential component to helping widen a child’s emotional window of tolerance during play therapy.\nDemonstrate how to work with parents in the play therapy process and keep them engaged.\nApply the use of boundaries to help reduce emotional flooding and overwhelm in both the child and the therapist during play therapy.\nDemonstrate how to set boundaries in play therapy without shaming or shutting down the child’s play.\nDescribe the projective process and how children engage in “The Set Up” during play therapy\, as a way to integrate their perceptions of what is challenging them.\nUse the therapist’s authenticity and attunement to support the attachment process in play therapy.\nUse regulation\, in the midst of challenging play\, as an essential component of becoming the child’s external regulator in the playroom.\nUse regulation to support a child’s ability to learn how to regulate during play therapy sessions.\n\nSix-Day Synergetic Play Therapy® Intensive Prerequisite Training: \n\nParticipants should have completed or be enrolled in a Master’s Degree (or equivalent) program in counseling\, social work\, or education.\nPrevious experience working with children and families is also required.\nA basic understanding of play therapy and play therapy skills is required.\n\nGet all the details and register here!

SUMMARY:MD/CD APT Workshop: Healing Medical Trauma in Play Therapy
DESCRIPTION:In this 6-hour workshop\, play therapists will explore medical trauma from the perspective of neuroscience and interpersonal neurobiology while drawing from Gestalt Play Therapy\, Synergetic Play Therapy and Nature Based Play principles.  Using creative play-based ways to support children and their family’s healing process\, participants will learn how to create emotional and relational safety for trauma integration.  They will learn what it means to become a child’s external regulator to help integrate the activation in a child’s nervous system while safely allowing the child to access the stored trauma in their body from the medical trauma. As children are not the only ones affected by medical trauma\, care for their caregivers will also be addressed\, as well as an exploration of creative play-based ways to help the entire family system heal.   \nIn addition to learning about medical trauma and its symptoms\, this workshop will also explore the difference between the role of a play therapist and the role of a Child Life Specialist in a medical setting allowing play therapists a greater knowledge in knowing how and when to collaborate with the medical team if a child is going to be experiencing a medical procedure or if the child is in on-going medical care. \nIf you would like your school or organization to receive training\, please contact the Institute at info@synergeticplaytherapy.com
